About Us
A California Family, a Forgotten Tradition, and a Jar of Tallow
Handcrafted skincare from Oakdale — the Cowboy Capital of the World — made the way it was made a hundred years ago.
Frontier Organics started in Oakdale, California in 2023. We're a small family business in the heart of the Central Valley, making tallow-based skincare, hygiene, and cosmetics the old way — slowly rendered, hand-mixed, and poured in small batches — using suet sourced from regenerative California ranches.
This is the story of why.
How It Started
The beginning wasn't a business plan — it was a problem.
Every bottle in our bathroom was a mystery. Petroleum byproducts, seed oils, synthetic fragrances, preservatives with names that took three tries to pronounce. The cheap stuff was chemical soup, and the "clean" alternatives cost a fortune while still hiding things in the fine print. We were tired of it.
Instead of complaining about it, we wanted to be the change.
So we started small. We raised a few cattle right here in Oakdale and processed them ourselves. We rendered the suet — the purest fat the animal produces — the old way: slowly, by hand, at low heat. First we sold the rendered tallow by the jar, for cooking. Then, almost as an experiment, we started using it to make skincare in our own kitchen. Small batches, for ourselves and for family. Nothing polished, nothing fancy. Just honest ingredients, mixed the way our great-grandparents would have done it.
It worked better than we expected.
We started posting what we were making on social media — more out of curiosity than marketing. The response caught us off guard. Friends asked for jars. Then friends of friends. Strangers started messaging us. Pretty soon we were packaging orders out of our kitchen and shipping them across the country. A few months after that, we loaded up a truck and set up at our first farmers market.
The demand grew faster than our small herd could keep up with. So we partnered with neighboring California ranches that raise cattle the same way we did — grass-fed, grass-finished, regeneratively raised, no feedlots, no shortcuts. Our flagship partner is a 7,500-acre working cattle ranch in the Central Valley. That partnership is what lets us keep making every product by hand, in small batches, while serving families across the country.
What started as frustration became a mission: return to traditional ways, use only real natural ingredients, and build the kind of skincare line we actually wanted to use ourselves. We never set out to build a brand. We set out to be a real alternative to the modern one.
That's still why we do this every day.
Why "Frontier Organics"
Oakdale calls itself the Cowboy Capital of the World for good reason — it's been a ranching town for over a century. This is our home where we've found peace. The name Frontier is our way of honoring that: a life shaped by open land, honest work, and people who've always made their own things rather than buying them.
The Organics part is our commitment to how we make them. Nothing synthetic. Nothing borrowed from Big Beauty. Just the ingredients your great-grandmother would recognize — and a few she'd probably approve of.
How We Source
We started by raising our own cattle. Today, as demand has grown, we partner with neighboring California ranches that do the same.
Our flagship partner is a 7,500-acre working cattle ranch in the Central Valley that practices regenerative agriculture — rotational grazing, no feedlots, no grain-finishing, no antibiotics or growth hormones. As we've grown, we've added additional partner ranches across California that meet the same standards. This lets us scale without sacrificing the thing that matters most: the quality of the fat.
Because when the cattle eat grass, their tallow carries the nutrition of that grass. That's the whole secret.
How We Make It
Our tallow is slowly dry-rendered at low heat — the same traditional method a ranch family would use a hundred years ago. This preserves the natural fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) and the full fatty-acid profile, instead of stripping them out the way industrial rendering does.
After rendering, every jar is hand-mixed with pure beeswax, cold-pressed carrier oils, and real essential oils. No preservatives, no synthetic fragrances, no fillers. We hand-pour every single container, label it, and cap it ourselves. It's slower, messier, and more expensive than automation — and it's the only way we know how to make something we'd actually trust on our own skin.
Handcrafted, not mass-produced
Every jar of Frontier Organics passes through real human hands. We believe that's not a limitation — it's the point.
