What's in it

• Grass-fed & finished beef tallow — slowly rendered from suet sourced from regenerative California ranches. Mirrors the fatty acids found in the outer layer of human skin, including baby skin. Rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K.
• Virgin organic coconut oil — naturally contains lauric acid. Adds glide and a light coconut note to the balm.
• Unrefined organic shea butter — packed with fatty acids and naturally occurring vitamins A and E. Adds creaminess and softness.
• Non-nano zinc oxide — forms a physical barrier between baby's skin and moisture/friction. The "non-nano" part matters: the zinc particles are larger than 100 nanometers, which means they sit on top of the skin and cannot absorb into the body. This is the safest form of zinc oxide for infants.
• Raw beeswax — creates a breathable, protective layer that locks in the balm's moisture without suffocating the skin.
• Organic chamomile essential oil — used at a baby-safe dilution (well below 0.5%). Traditional herbal ingredient with a soft floral note.
• Organic lavender essential oil — also at baby-safe dilution. A calming scent long associated with bedtime rituals.

That's it. No petroleum, no parabens, no synthetic fragrances, no phthalates, no mineral oils, no talc. Nothing we wouldn't use on our own children.

How to use

1. Warm a pea-sized amount between clean fingertips
2. Apply a thin, even layer to the diaper area at every change
3. Use liberally on any red, irritated, or dry patches
4. For cradle cap: massage a small amount into baby's scalp, leave for 15 minutes, comb gently with a soft brush, then rinse during bath time
5. Store away from direct sunlight — zinc oxide can separate in heat, just stir to re-incorporate

What to expect

• Texture: firm at room temperature, softens and spreads smoothly with body heat
• Color: soft creamy white from the zinc oxide
• Scent: subtle chamomile and lavender with a light coconut base — meant to be calming, not perfumed
• Finish: leaves a thin, semi-visible protective layer that wipes off cleanly with warm water
• Coverage: a 2oz jar lasts most families 4-6 weeks of daily diaper changes

A note for parents

This balm is formulated for babies 3 months and older. For younger infants, or if your child has any known allergies, we recommend doing a small patch test on the inner arm 24 hours before regular use. Discontinue if any irritation occurs. As with any new skincare, consult your pediatrician if you have specific concerns about your baby's skin.

The craft

Hand-mixed in small batches in Oakdale, California. We warm the tallow, shea, and coconut oil slowly so nothing denatures, fold in the non-nano zinc and beeswax, add the essential oils at the lowest heat, and hand-pour every jar. Shelf life 12+ months unopened. Family-made, the way we'd make it if it was for our own kids — because it was, originally.
